Expertise and knowledge in planning for ICT and Data Protection

Ireland is approaching the 30 year anniversary of its first legislation in the area of Data Protection (DP Act 1988). Next year (2018) will also see the introduction of the first pan-European legislation, when the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect in May.

As consultant I have a particular interest in helping organisations, particularly those within the not-for-profit sector, to address issues relating to data protection governance and legislation.  Data protection by definition relates to handling information that is confidential and often sensitive.  I can promise complete confidentiality and also have the benefit of significant relevant experience from my previous professional work as well holding a number of recent qualifications and certifications in the field of data protection.

The Law Society of Ireland runs a Certificate in Data Protection for lawyers and others. The course runs twice a year over a 6 month period. I successfully completed this course in March 2017.

The Irish Computer Society programme is aimed at Data Protection Officers, Compliance and Audit Officers, and Information Security Professionals. I fulfilled the course and examination requirements in May 2017, leading to a Data Protection Officer (DPO) Certificate.
